Pace yourself
It is easy to be over whelmed with a lot of information.  Don't try to read & watch everything all at once.  Study the material and become thoroughly knowledgeable on each subject.  Learn to walk before you run.

Most of the information (Documents and Videos) are Copyrighted by one of the following:

1.

Download the DirecTV Installation Manual from the DTV Handout section.  Be sure to read it thoroughly.  You older seasoned techs may find out a lot of information you were not aware of. Keep in mind there may be additional or modified rules or regulations your client or area requires.

2.

From the Handout section, also review the Diplexers, HDTV and Troubleshooting Manual.

3.

Watch each video.  They are a good way to learn or review the information from the DirecTV manual and other information supplied from this site. Like reading a book vs. going to the movie, the documents contain a lot of information that the videos do not provide. Videos are only a back up for the printed materials.

4.

Take the sample tests. Test 1 covers a wide range of DirecTV knowledge.  Some tests are best taken after watching the associated video.  They are good ways to see if you retained the information from that particular video.

5.

Download and study the SBCA manuals.  Study the manuals from front to back and then again.  KNOW the information.

6.

Get SBCA Certified.  The Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) and satellite industry leaders have joined together to develop the SBCA National Standards and Testing Program, providing an industry-endorsed benchmark of knowledge for the installation of satellite products and services.
